Navex Privacy Policy

Overview

Navex is a Chrome extension that enables fast webpage navigation using custom shortcuts. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.

Data Collection and Storage

Navex collects and stores the following data locally on your device:

• Custom shortcuts: The shortcut names and URLs you create
• Website favicons: Small icon images cached from websites you add as shortcuts
• Theme preference: Your dark/light mode setting

How Data is Stored

All data is stored using Chrome's built-in storage mechanisms:

• Chrome Sync Storage: Your shortcuts and preferences sync across your Chrome browsers where you're logged in with the same Google account
• Local Storage: Theme preferences are also stored locally for faster loading

Important: All data remains within Chrome's storage system and syncs only through Google's Chrome Sync infrastructure.

Third-Party Services

Navex uses Google's Favicon Service to fetch website icons when you save shortcuts:

• Service: https://www.google.com/s2/favicons
• Purpose: Retrieve favicon images for visual identification of shortcuts
• Data sent: Only the website URL you're saving as a shortcut
• Caching: Favicons are cached locally to minimize requests

Data We Do NOT Collect

Navex does not:

• Collect personal information (name, email, etc.)
• Track your browsing history
• Send your data to external servers (except favicon requests as described above)
• Use analytics or tracking tools
• Share your data with third parties
• Display advertisements

Data Control

You have full control over your data:

• Export: Export all shortcuts as JSON from the extension settings
• Import: Import shortcuts from a JSON file
• Delete: Remove individual shortcuts or clear all data at once
• Uninstall: Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data

Permissions Explanation

Navex requests the following Chrome permissions:

• storage: To save your shortcuts and preferences
• notifications: To show confirmation messages when you save/delete shortcuts
• activeTab: To save the current page as a shortcut when requested
• Host permissions (google.com, gstatic.com): To fetch favicon images from Google's service

Children's Privacy

Navex does not knowingly collect information from children under 13 and is not directed at children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. Continued use of Navex after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
